Give an Elliptical Trainer for Christmas!

You've heard the promotion, “Give the gift that keeps on giving.” “ Well there is no better gift that continues to give, than fitness equipment. So what type of fitness equipment should you give? There are numerous types of fitness equipment, many promising miraculous results. However, there is one in particular that has proven to get people in shape and help them lose weight – elliptical trainers.

Elliptical trainers promise and deliver a low impact, upper and body workout. This dual action machine works more muscle groups simultaneously than any other fitness equipment. This results in an optimum workout for losing weight. In addition, through the elliptical motion, it reduces the stress and strain on your body, particularly your ankles, knees and back. That is why elliptical trainers have become so popular with the aging baby boomers.

“Does it make sense to give an elliptical trainer for Christmas?

Absolutely, if you cherish your health and the health of your loved ones. Think about it, what is more likely to contribute to your long-term health, an elliptical trainer or a flat screen HDTV? Which one will help you lose weight? Actually, the flat screen TV will probably help you gain weight.

Of course, the question is, which one are you more likely to use? Elliptical trainers can be expensive clothes hangers, and unfortunately, many serve that role. So before you buy, make sure there is a commitment to use it. Although once you have it in your house, you’ll feel obligated to use it.

Having an elliptical trainer in your home makes exercising more convenient. Inconvenience is one the major reasons people do not work out. It is just too hard to find the time to get to the club. Moreover, in the winter the early darkness and miserable weather make exercising outdoors an unappealing option.

“What kind of elliptical trainer should you buy?

If you are serious about getting in shape, then stay away from cheap machines. They are built for obsolescence. Most come with a 90 parts and labor warranty. There is a reason, the manufacturers are not confident they will last much longer. You should plan to spend a minimum $1,000. Purchase from brands that back their equipment with reasonable warranties.

One last note, if you plan to purchase an elliptical trainer for Christmas, plan ahead. Fitness equipment is a popular gift, and as the holiday season gets closer, the supplies start to dwindle. If you are planning to buy online, allow a few weeks for delivery. Although some online retailers can deliver within 2 weeks. Check the delivery details on the site.

An elliptical trainer could be the best gift you have ever bought, and from a self-serving perspective, you can benefit in two ways. First, it can get your significant other to slim down and get in those smaller clothes sizes. A definite plus. Second, the person you buy it for may let you use it. You end up with one of those gifts that you also benefits from. Not a bad deal.

The Advantages Of Using An Elliptical Trainer For Weight Loss

Elliptical trainers in my opinion are the best piece of fitness equipment to use for weight loss. They offer unique benefits that none of the other pieces of fitness equipment can offer. This includes ease-of-use, an effective workout, less stress on joints and the ability for high-powered weight loss.

Ease Of Use

An elliptical trainer is really easy use, often they come preassembled or require very little assembly. This is great for people who want to purchase a piece of fitness equipment but do not want to spend hours putting it together or a hundred dollars to have someone come out and assemble it. Also once the elliptical trainer is assembled it is really easy for someone new to get on and start using it. No huge training manuals required. Once you get a feel for the steady easy motion of an elliptical trainer you'll be hooked and instantly love working out.

Effective Workout

Using elliptical trainer allows for yourself to have a high-quality work out in a lot less time than it would take if you're for instance running or going for a walk. In addition to this, you're able to work out for longer periods of time.

Less Stress On Joints

Like mentioned earlier having less stress on your joints allows you to work out longer, and even allows elderly people to get the advantages of an elliptical trainer.

High-Powered Weight Loss

Many studies have shown elliptical trainers are one of the most effective pieces of equipment for weight loss. When you first start using your elliptical trainer, you will noticed within the first few weeks a significant difference in the amount of weight you are losing starting with your legs and gut. Continued use will allow you to continually lose weight and most importantly maintain this weight loss.

About Elliptical Trainer Costs

When you are thinking about getting in shape and buying some fitness equipment for your home costs are always an issue, since no one wants to spend a lot of money only to later discover that the fitness machine is used primarily as some sort of a expensive clothes hanger, a constant reminder that a lot of money was spent on something that came to very little use, and also to remind you that you still didn’t get into shape.

However, Elliptical trainers' costs should not be a big deal if you are after a long-term fitness machine that will serve its purpose well. Determination and understanding of the fitness plan are what you need.

It is a fact that elliptical trainers do not come cheap. It also does not help that many cheap ones are emerging already. That is why you cannot really blame those who would rather opt for the cheaper ones since they really do not have the budget for it after all.

What should have come first and foremost in mind is that physical fitness is a lifetime endeavor. When you see that you are fit enough and has lost some of the pounds in you, it should not stop there. You should maintain it for other health benefits that it can give you.

Having your own elliptical trainer is one of the options that many people are taking. And why not? You can have this at your home and get into it once you feel the urge to. There are no worries of having to go to the gym to do that. And no worries of being conscious of what you are doing.

These are the reasons why buying one should be thought long and hard first. You will realize that you have made a mistake in buying cheap elliptical trainers once it breaks down and you need a replacement.

Cheap elliptical trainers are not well known for their strength and stability. There are things that you would prefer lightweight, but this is not so with elliptical trainers. In the process of buying one, you need to check out if the trainer is stable. You can test by trying it on in the shop. See how well it will compliment your weight. It should not move or sway when you are using it.

If it does, then there is a possibility that it might topple or stumble over when you are exercising on that. This can cause serious injuries to you. Not only that, you will not get what your money is worth if it breaks down after some use.

Elliptical machines are an excellent tool for getting in shape quickly, although these are not cheap home fitness trainers the elliptical is known as a popular choice, and satisfaction ratings are high among its users. Elliptical Trainers Are Not A Replacement For Everything

Elliptical trainers are something like having your cake and eating it too, but not quite. An elliptical trainer will give you a good aerobic workout if you exercise at sufficient intensity for sufficient duration for your particular physical condition. An elliptical will help build muscle endurance, which is something different than muscle strength, but just as important for athletic training. One often touted benefit of an elliptical trainer is that the workout is load-bearing while easy on your joints at the same time. Because you exercise in a standing position that is true so far as it goes, but it's not the whole truth.

Because at least part of your body weight is supported by the pedals or propelled by centrifugal force for the entire elliptical exercise period, you will not get the equivalent training effect that you will by running on a treadmill or on the pavement. Each down stroke while running creates a force upon impact that may be as much as 4 or 5 times your bodyweight. With each forward pace one leg must lift your entire bodyweight and throw it forward. There is no flywheel centrifugal force to assist you. These are the kinds of things that increase bone density, strengthen tendons, and build muscle. They all happen while running on a treadmill and on the pavement, but they do not happen, at least not to the same extent, as they do on an elliptical trainer.

If you are nursing an injury that would be aggravated by the impact of running then the elliptical will keep your cardio fitness levels up to snuff, but the elliptical trainer will not adequately substitute for your running program. U.S. Army physical fitness experts say that the very best way to train for any particular athletic activity is to perform the activity itself. If you are training for a 10K or a marathon, the elliptical trainer is certainly not going to hurt you, but it is not an adequate replacement for the leg strength, balance, technique and endurance that you will get on the street or on the treadmill.

Discover Why An Elliptical Trainer Is The Only Healthy Way To Get Back Into Shape

You’re knee is acting up and your joints feel extremely stiff. But you want to workout anyway. In fact, you know you need to workout this day. Yet you also know that you’ll pay in the morning after all the strain and pressure you put your body after any regular workout. However, with the increased popularity of home gym equipment, cardio fitness equipment has evolved. An elliptical machine offers an advantage that other cardio equipment just can’t compete with. Elliptical exercise is easy on your joints yet gives you the intensity you need to keep in tip-top shape.

What exactly is an elliptical machine?

An elliptical machine offers an intense workout with one smooth, continuous motion. Where a stair-climber or treadmill will jar your joints with every step, the round, steady motion of an elliptical exercise machine almost makes it feel as if you’re not actually exercising. Well, O.K., almost. Some elliptical machines even offer an arm handle option. This way you can work out both your upper body and lower body at the same time. This lessens your total workout time while increasing your metabolism rate. See, I told you that you wouldn’t even know that you were exercising! Elliptical exercises also provide a quiet alternative when compared to other home cardio equipment.

You will truly feel the difference when using an elliptical machine. The shock and strain that you feel from running is non-existent when you’re using an elliptical exercise machine. And the awkwardness of ski-machines is a non-issue. This allows for more consistent workouts for more consistent results.

Why go for an elliptical machine versus other cardio equipment?

To begin, elliptical exercise works your glutes, quads, hamstrings, calves, shins, deltoids, biceps, triceps, pecs, back and stomach. Whew! Now it should be understood that elliptical machines do not create a miracle exercise method. Yes, with the aid of arm handles, all of the above muscle groups are worked. However, don’t expect the same muscle definition that weight training provides. But, for overall fitness and cardio improvement, elliptical exercise has it all.

Not to be forgotten is their ease of use. All you do is jump on and simply start pumping. An elliptical machine is set-up so that proper exercise and body alignment is unavoidable. Even the novice fitness enthusiast can begin elliptical exercise with minimal instruction. An added bonus for fitness fans of all levels is that elliptical machines are great fat burners. You burn just as much fat and calories as when jogging, but without all the body shock and joint pain.

For overall fitness and cardio strength, an elliptical machine is hard to beat. You may worry about what an elliptical machine will cost you. Right now the market is inundated with reasonably priced, quality elliptical machines and the low-impact workout is reason alone to purchase one. But, with minimal noise and sturdy construction, their benefits are fast making them the most popular choice for home cardio equipment.

Benefits Of An Elliptical Trainer For Weight Loss

The first question I get when I discuss elliptical trainers with someone new to the wonderful world of fitness equipment is, how can an elliptical trainer benefit me?

I tell them if I was only allowed to have one piece of fitness equipment and I had to sell the rest I would keep my elliptical trainer. Elliptical trainers meet the overall need of any exercise program.

Elliptical trainers allow for a high end workout, that is very low impact so you can continue to do it for longer periods of time over more high impact exercises. This is awesome because you can work out twice as long and your knees and hips will not hurt as bad as if you went for a run for the same amount of time.

Another benefit is they allow you to workout at home, in all weather conditions. I am from New York and often in the winter time the weather does not allow one to workout outside due to the cold and snow. I simply go down to my basement and hop on my elliptical trainer.

This allows me to quickly and easily get a high intensity workout without having to leaving my home. This helps me stick to a workout schedule even if I do not feel like going to the gym.

One complaint I used to have about elliptical trainers is how noisy they were, in recent years the noise level is much less. Let me tell you my family is happy since the noise is reduced by nearly 25% over older models.

Schwinn Elliptical Trainer Reviews

The goal of buying any fitness equipment is to get the best value in your price range. Within the last few years, elliptical trainers have grown in popularity. Their appeal is two-fold. They offer a low-impact, and simultaneous upper and lower body workout. They have become particularly appealing to an aging baby boomer generation, who are looking for a form of exercise that is less stressful to their joints.

One of the better values in the $1,000 price range is the Schwinn Elliptical Trainers. Putting this into perspective, the Schwinn ellipticals are not your health club machines like Precor and Life Fitness. They are a moderately priced and ideal for those who want the convenience of working out at home, but have a limited budget.

Schwinn offers 2 models, the 418 and the 438. They are mechanically the same, with the 438 offering extra features like wireless heart rate control and an upgraded console. You can find the 418 as low as $799, and the 438 starting around $999, and it is the price that makes them so appealing. In the $800-$1,000 price range, you often find machines that are poorly constructed, and built with cheap components. The quality of your workout suffers.

The Schwinn ellipticals have an 18” stride, which can comfortably handle the majority of users. Often ellipticals in this price range have a choppy and bouncy motion. The Schwinn feels like you are walking in the air. That is what you want from an elliptical trainer.

The machines are equipped with eddy current magnetic brake system, which contributes to the smooth and quiet motion. They incorporate articulating foot pedals that angle with the motion. This reduces stress on your legs and prevents numbness. They come with a two-year warranty on parts, one-year on the electronics and you get 6-months service coverage.

A strong endorsement was a “Best Buy” rating from Consumer Reports. They gave it an “Excellent” for quality. There were several other ellipticals that received “Excellent” ratings - they started at $2,100.

You can find Schwinn ellipticals at select fitness specialty stores. In addition, their available through numerous online outlets. The prices can vary, so shop around.

If you are looking a for a good budget elliptical trainer, the Schwinn is worth considering.
